I offer after school classes in Digital Audio Production in schools throughout Seattle, as well as group classes at my music studio in the Georgetown artist district. My goal is to encourage kids, regardless of prior experience, toward self expression through music making: learning rhythms, melodies, chords, singing, and building song structures. We learn basic music theory and technique while boosting personal confidence and social emotion skills through honing our creative identity and presentation of work.

As a music instructor I've taught group and private lessons for 20 years. In addition to leading my own classes I frequently partner with Jack Straw Cultural Center working with underserved elementary schools around the city.

Current and past school partnerships: Bertschi School, UCDS, Bush School, Meridian, Perkins School, Lowell, Concord elementary.

Digital Audio Production Class Description: Using the Garageband app for iOS we look at various styles of music rock, pop, hip hop, classical, jazz and identify the building blocks essential to each - drums, bass, chords, lead instruments, vocals. We talk about musical artists from each genre and highlight people of color in the arts and what they have contributed. Then we create our own by recording instruments ourselves if kids have some musical experience or we use the pre recorded samples contained in the software. We talk about overall balance of sound, mixing basics, and general songwriting forms. Then we share what we've created.
